Tucked away in the lush jungle of Mfumbwi — a quiet, authentic village on the southern coast of Zanzibar — Zen Boutique Retreat & Resort sits in its own pocket of paradise, surrounded by tropical greenery and the unhurried rhythm of island life. A ten-minute walk through the village leads you to the Indian Ocean and some of the most stunning white sand beaches in East Africa. Close enough to feel, far enough away to truly switch off.

The Bungalows

Twelve private bungalows sit within the resort grounds, each one its own little sanctuary. Every bungalow comes with a private garden, a personal terrace, and direct pool-facing views — so whether you're starting the day with a coffee in the morning quiet or unwinding after a long afternoon, your space always feels like your own.

Eight standard bungalows offer everything you need: beautifully designed, cool, private, and peaceful. Four deluxe bungalows step it up further — larger in size, with more space to breathe, rest, and settle fully into the week. Every bungalow features an outdoor shower bathroom — open to the sky, surrounded by greenery, and one of those small details that makes daily life here feel genuinely different.

The Pool

At the heart of the resort sits a stunning 20-metre swimming pool — the centrepiece of everything. Flanked by day beds and chill-out areas, with a laid-back daytime energy that feels somewhere between a Balinese hideaway and an Ibiza beach club done properly — without the noise. It's the place where mornings stretch into afternoons and nobody feels the need to be anywhere else.

The Facilities

A fully equipped gym for training and personal workouts. A spa for proper recovery and treatment. A secret meditation garden — tucked away from the main resort, quiet and completely still — for those moments when you need to disappear entirely. Multiple yoga areas and shalas, open-air and surrounded by nature, designed for practice at any time of day.

The Social Heart

Rising three floors at the centre of the resort, Zen Boutique's bar, lounge, and rooftop is where the energy of the day finds its natural home. Ground level offers a cool, relaxed lounge space. The middle floor opens out for dining and drinks. And at the top — the rooftop bar, with sweeping, uninterrupted views across the jungle canopy as the sun sets behind the trees. One of the best seats on the island, and a view that never gets old.

The international restaurant serves fresh, fully à la carte cuisine throughout the day — healthy, flavourful, and made with the kind of care that comes from a kitchen that takes food seriously. Every meal here is an occasion, not an afterthought.

The Private Villa

For those seeking the ultimate in privacy, Zen Boutique's private villa is a retreat within the retreat. Two additional private bungalows sit within their own walled sanctuary, complete with a private 10-metre pool, an outdoor kitchenette, a dedicated dining area, and sun loungers — all accessed via a private entrance separate from the main resort. The full facilities of Zen Boutique remain just steps away, but here, the world feels entirely your own.
